FIRST READING: Jeremiah 29:10-14

10For thus says the Lord: Only when Babylons seventy years are completed will I visit you, and I will fulfil to you my promise and bring you back to this place.11For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.12Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you.13When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart,14I will let you find me, says the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.

SECOND READING: John 11:45-53

45Many of the Jews therefore, who had come with Mary and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him.46But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what he had done.47So the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the council, and said, What are we to do? This man is performing many signs.48If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and destroy both our holy place our nation.49But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, You know nothing at all!50You do not understand that it is better for you to have one man die for the people than to have the whole nation destroyed.51He did not say this on his own, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus was about to die for the nation,52and not for the nation only, but to gather into one the dispersed children of God.53So from that day on they planned to put him to death

P: The holy gospel according to St. Luke, the 13th chapter.

C:    Glory to you, O Lord.

GOSPEL: Luke 13:31-35

31At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.32He said to them, Go and tell that fox for me ,Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work.33Yet today, tomorrow, and the next day I must be on my way, because it is impossible for a prophet to be killed away from Jerusalem.34Jerusalem,

Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How

often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!35See, your house is left to you. And I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when say, Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
