Prayer of the Day

Almighty God, by grace alone you call us and accept us in your service. Strengthen us by your Spirit, and make us worthy of your call, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Gospel: A Reading from the Gospel of St. Mark

Christ Calling the Apostles Peter and Andrew

Mark 1:14–20

14Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.

16As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. 17And Jesus said to them, Follow me and I will make you fish for people. 18And immediately they left their nets and followed him. 19As he went a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John, who were in their boat mending the nets. 20Immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and followed him.

P: The Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.

Sermon: Announcing the Kingdom

Hymn

Jesus Calls Us; o'er the Tumult (v. 1 & 2)

ELW #696
1Jesus calls us; o'er the tumult
of our life's wild, restless sea,
day by day his clear voice sounding,
saying, "Christian, follow me":
2As of old Saint Andrew heard it
by the Galilean lake,
turned from home and toil and kindred,
leaving all for Jesus' sake.

Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of the Church

P: Lord, in your mercy,
C: hear our prayer.

Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Weekly Announcements

We remember in our prayers

Card Showers for Kent & Lisa

On February 14, the last Sunday before Lent and the day we recognize those close to our hearts, OSLC will recognize Kent Sunderland and Lisa Alvis for 30 years of service each! We ask that you help us celebrate the occasion with a card shower. Please send cards to Kent and Lisa in care of the church office, and we will present them collectively at that time.

Giving Statements

Annual Giving Statements for 2020 are available for pickup at the church.

Tree Removal

The Church Council this week approved the removal of two trees in front of the church due to their age, health, and potential hazard to the church and members gathered here. They include the large tree nearest to the front door of the church, which recently dropped a limb on the church roof.

Call For Coats

The Mission Committee has been contacted by Safe Harbor (the Salvation Army) to say that they are in need of child-size coats. If anyone has any that are new or gently used and clean, please drop them at the church, and someone from the Mission Committee will make sure they get to Safe Harbor.

Red Cross Blood Drive

The OSLC Mission Committee will be hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Saturday, February 6 from 8 a.m. until 12 noon. The blood drive will be located in the fellowship hall. More information can be found on the church website.

Annual Meeting Postponed

The Church Council voted at last month's meeting to delay the 2021 Annual Meeting, normally held at the end of January, until such a time when, based on CDC guidelines, the Council feels it is safe to hold the meeting. Until that time, current Council members will continue in their roles, and the church will operate on an extension of the current year's budget. Please talk to a Council member if you have concerns about this.

Food Drive

The Mission committee is continuing to collect food that will be shared between Safe Harbor and the Midwest Food Bank. We are collecting the following items:

There is a box just inside the church entrance where you can deposit items. Please do not take items to Megan or Pastor Henrick's office.
